Kokomo, IN
In the 1880s a large natural gas field was found in Kokomo, and the city supplied free gas to attract businesses, a supply that was exhausted within a decade. Today the Kokomo Opalescent Glass company remains the only business from that era and is the oldest producer of opalescent glass worldwide. The company operates the Hot Glass Studio, where hand‑blown and hand‑cast pieces are created, including limited‑edition functional and sculptural works by artists Jon Wolfe and Michael Amis.
