Antelope Valley Station

Beulah, ND

The Antelope Valley Station is a lignite‑fired power plant located seven miles northwest of Beulah, North Dakota, with two 450‑MW units that began operation in 1984 and 1986. The plant draws lignite from the adjacent Freedom Mine and lignite fines from the nearby Great Plains Synfuels Plant, and it uses water from Lake Sakakawea in a zero‑discharge system that relies on evaporation. Since commissioning, the station has been ranked among the lowest‑cost coal‑fired generators in the United States and has invested heavily in air and water pollution controls to meet or exceed regulatory standards.
