The Great Alaskan Bowl Company
Fairbanks, AK
The Great Alaskan Bowl Company in Fairbanks continues to produce wooden bowls using machinery that dates back to the 19th century. The company harvests only a few large trees per acre, allowing sunlight to support smaller growth, and then cuts the logs into lengths that are split and turned into up to eight solid birch bowls per piece. Visitors can watch the entire process, from kiln drying monitored for moisture to hand sanding and a natural oil finish, displayed behind glass in the showroom.
