Bureau of Engraving and Printing

Washington, DC

During the visit, participants observe the complete workflow of U.S. paper money production, from large blank sheets to finished bills ready for circulation. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing, established in 1862, continues to use hand‑engraved tools such as the graver, burnisher, and glass while incorporating modern printing technology. The Washington, D.C. site, which has operated since 1914, also produces other U.S. securities and invitations for the White House.
